Create a Handmade Home is a practical and hands on course to decorating your own home. You will learn how to create your own design, basic DIY and upcycling skills and practical techniques to be able to transform a room. 


In this course you will: 


- Identify your style, create your visual guidelines and build a moodboard for a specific room. 

- Learn new skills and gain confidence in order to make your own handmade items. 

- Get personalised advice on all your projects covered during the course.

Duration: 5 sessions

The course covers: 

Session 1 - Inspiration, moodboard and styling (3 hours)

Design and create your own moodbard with colours & patterns. We will go through what you already have and what to keep, change or make!  


Session 2 - Upcycling & painting furniture (3 hours)

Learn the basic techniques of upcycling & painting on one of your selected pieces of furniture. You will prepare your piece and go through basic painting techniques to obtain your desired look. 

You will be able to use the same techniques for other pieces of furniture. 


Session 3 - Reupholster a chair, a footstool or a headboard  (3 hours)

Based on modern upholstery techniques, you will learn how to remove the current fabric, replace the fillings and apply calico and main fabric. 


Session 4 - Introduction to Soft furnishings (3 hours)

Learn how to measure, pattern match and make your own cushion cover to follow your new style. We will also cover how to measure and dress your windows for best impact, what type of curtains & roman blinds you would need, lining & interlining and where to source the fabrics. 

Please note that we will not cover how to make the curtains and roman blinds. If you would like to learn how to make these we recommend you join our soft furnishing classes here. 


Session 5 - Finishing projects (3 hours)

You will learn how to finish your painted piece with distressing techniques and different types of wax and will finish your upholstery project. 


At the end of the course you will have a complete design of what your room is going to look like, including three finished projects which will be the basis of your new style! 



You will need to bring: 

- Photos, mag cuts, samples or any other items that will serve as inspiration for your project. 

- A piece of furniture to paint (side table, chair, small chest of drawers, shelving unit, lamp base, mirror frame, etc)

- A piece of furniture to reupholster (drop in seat chair, footstool or a headboard) and main fabric. 

- Main fabric for your cushion cover. 

Please note that you are responsible for bringing your own pieces of furniture to the club. 


During the first session we will talk through everything you need for the projects. So don't panic if you don't know yet what furniture you are going to use or what fabric to buy! 


Some materials are provided, but for large projects, materials such as paint, foam, calico, etc will be additional as every project will be different, you will be able to buy them here as you need them.
