This is our very popular Sewing intensive course. In 5 weeks you will learn basic sewing skills and gain confidence at the sewing machine. We have prepared a wide range of projects to cover the most important skills!
Day 1: Become familiar with the sewing machine: Learn to thread the machine and the bobbin and practice using different settings on the machine. Learn to sew and finish a seam. Cut out a simple pattern and make a tote bag.
Day 2: Learn how to insert a zipper and use interfacing. Make yourself a lined zip pouch which can be used as make-up bag/purse/pencil case etc.
Day 3: The jump into simple clothes making! Learn how to read and cut a simple pattern. Make your own pair of pyjama bottoms where you’ll learn how to hem trousers and insert an elasticated waist.
Day 4: Make a simple top, you will learn how to sew darts and turn a bias tape.
Day 5: You will learn great techniques to make your own alterations, hemming, how to sew a buttonhole and how to insert an invisible zip (you will need to bring some clothes for this, we will advise during the class)
This course is aimed at beginners who would like to learn basic sewing techniques. These techniques can be applied to small projects at home or can be used in more advanced classes.
Materials: Included (we will provide a range of fabrics for you to choose from, but for the last project you will need to bring some clothes to be altered)

A great course to improve & perfect your sewing skills. We will make a fully lined backpack (Cooper bag by Colette Patterns) where you will learn how to follow a commercial pattern, cut your pieces, sew inside and outside lined pockets, edge stitch, add hardware kits and many sewing techniques.
This is the perfect class if you would like to learn how to make and finish a bag to a professional standard. After this class you should be able to create your own styled bags by following or amending a commercial pattern.
The Cooper bag by Colette Patterns gives you three different bags from one basic body: messenger bag, backpack, and satchel.
These highly durable bags can be made in a range of sturdy fabrics such as duck canvas, waxed canvas, twill, and heavy ticking.
If you are a very beginner, we recommend you take one of our Learn To Sew classes before taking this class.
Please allow £15 - £25 for the fabric and the hardware required for the bag. We have a beautiful selection of fabrics here for you to buy: waxed canvas, chambray, hessian, heavy cottons, waterproof lining & tickings or you can bring your own fabric.
